I. Introduction

The office of the Stevens County Clerk is created by the Washington State Constitution.  The County Clerk is by virtue of her office, Clerk of the Superior Court. As such, there is a courtroom clerk present for every hearing presided over by the Superior Court. It is the duty of the courtroom clerk to be present for and to record the proceedings of the Superior Court in written and audio form; to keep the complete and accurate records, files, and other books pertaining to the Superior Court; to file all papers delivered for that purpose in any case of the Superior Court; to administer oaths and receive the verdict of the jury under the direction of the Court; and, under the direction of the Court, to enter its orders, judgments, and decrees.

It is the duty of all Court personnel, including the Clerk and the Clerk’s deputies, to observe the highest of standards of conduct, fidelity, and diligence in carrying out their duties.

NOTICE: Court clerks cannot provide any legal advice. Please keep in mind that what you may think is procedural advice may in fact be legal advice. If a clerk advises that they cannot answer a particular question, please try to be understanding.
